Gin Guide

Gin, juniper, and the rest of the basket

If it is gin, juniper is doing legal or traditional work. Everything else is the house style.

Juniper is the through-line. London Dry is a style name, not a promise that the bottle was filled in London. Contemporary or 'new' gins often turn the volume up on citrus, tea, or floral botanicals. Neither style is the grown-up one.

Bombay Sapphire is the gin on file. Its public story talks about botanicals and vapour infusion. This guide does not copy a proprietary recipe, and it does not store one ABV, because the brand is bottled at more than one strength depending on the market.

A gin and tonic is a serve, not a cocktail page in this directory. The Martini and the Negroni are, because they have stable public specifications. If you are matching a bottle to a drink, start from the cocktail's spirit link, then from taste tags, and stop when the directory runs out.
